Euphonasia, Dark Blue Hair

Euphonasia, Dark Blue Hair (2011)

Euphonasia is a jazz-rock fusion group that indulges in the art of groove with fun catchy melodies. The musicians of Euphonasia have very extensive and eclectic professional backgrounds in music. They are full time professional musicians in the Washington DC area that decided to get together and create some music for the sheer joy of it. The name Euphonasia comes from the lead melodic instrument of the group which is a tenor brass instrument called a Euphonium. The difference is they take that euphonium and play it through a slew of electronic effects, so much that it doesn’t even sound like a euphonium anymore… probably for the best.

There is something on “Dark Blue Hair” for everyone, no matter your musical taste. Their music is best described as fun, catchy, upbeat, funky, progressive, harmonically unique and improvisatory with a lot of musical interplay. The album is mostly filled with original music, and there are also a few popular cover tunes, done in the style of Euphonasia. Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” Toto’s “Rosanna,” and even a medley of music from the movie “Predator.”
